Last week, Marvel Studios officially announced that Benedict Cumberbatch was going to be its Doctor Strange. Fans of the character (including me) let out a collective sigh of relief as Cumberbatch is perfect for the role of the Master of the Mystic Arts.
Hey U Guys caught up with the actor at the 2014 British Independent Film Awards, where he had been nominated for Best Actor for the Alan Turing biopic "The Imitation Game," and he talked a little bit about the upcoming Marvel project. This is the first time Cumberbatch has spoken about getting the part since the official announcement. After some obligatory patter about the honor of being nominated for the award (which he lost to Brendan Gleeson as it turns out), the actor discussed how much of a fan he is of the Marvel films, saying, "It's a thrilling gig to get. I just can't wait." Cumberbatch added that he was "excited, really excited" to play the character, but of course he couldn't offer any real details about the film. There's obviously still a lot of work to do before they start production on the highly anticipated Marvel flick which isn't due in theaters until late in 2016.
There's a 2-minute-long video below that features Cumberbatch discussing Marvel and the character he will play in its cinematic universe:
