An American citizen named Adam Everett Livvix has been indicted by Israeli officials for planning to bomb Muslim holy sites, according to The Associated Press.
Livvix, 30, has been indicted in Israel on weapons charges and told investigators he had been weighing the possibility of attacking Muslim holy sites, but now continues to deny all charges, according to the Israeli domestic security service Shin Bet, the AP reported.
Livvix was arrested on Nov. 19 and was charged on Monday with conspiring with his roommate, an Israeli soldier, to steal three pounds of explosives from the military, according to Al Jazeera America.
Livvix's lawyer said all the charges against his client were "nonsense" on Wednesday, and told reporters the Shin Bet was exaggerating the security implications of the case.
The Shin Bet and the Justice Ministry identified Livvix and said he was wanted in the United States on drug charges. Various news reports claim Livvix is from Texas, while the Associated Press claims he is from Illinois.
"Under questioning, Livvix admitted ... he had weighed various ideas about committing terrorist attacks at different venues and even gave preliminary thought to the possibility of attacking venues (of) Islamic holy places in Israel," the Shin Bet said.
The Israeli authorities said an undercover police agent discovered the alleged plot and found ammunition and weapons stolen from the army in Livvix's possession.
Until Tuesday, details from the case were being kept secret, but a gag order on details of the case, being heard in a court in the central Israeli city of Netanya, was lifted on Tuesday, the AP reported.
Livvix is a Christian and arrived in Palestine in 2013, living first in the Palestinian and then lived illegally in Israel.
