Tim Tebow Patriots Update: Contract Details, Belichick Talks Minicamp

Details of Tim Tebow's contract with the New England Patriots emerged, and coach Bill Belichick briefly discussed Tebow's first and second day of minicamp.

Tebow signed a two-year deal with no guaranteed money, a source told USA Today. He'll be paid the league minimum base salary over the next two seasons, and he has the opportunity to make up to $2 million with playing-time incentives in 2014.

His base salary is $630,000 this season and $730,000 the next; the contract only has incentives for the 2014 season.

He'll earn the full $2 million in 2014 only if he's on the field for 80 percent of the offensive snaps and New England wins at least 10 games or makes the playoffs. He'll make $500,000 in 2014 if he plays in 60 percent of the snaps, $1 million for 70 percent or $1.5 million for 80 percent - regardless of winning 10 games or reaching the postseason.

There's a $25,000 workout bonus next season, which makes the maximum value of his contract worth $3.385 million over two years - if he isn't released.

Thursday will be Tebow's third day of minicamp with the Patriots. Belichick wasn't forthcoming on Tebow's first day of camp, saying only that one day of practice isn't enough to gauge a player.

Tebow didn't participate much on Wednesday, instead watching quarterbacks Tom Brady and Ryan Mallet practice while he studied the new system, according to the Associated Press. Belichick followed the tone he set on Tuesday in regard to Tebow questions.

"We're not going to get into a minute-by-minute evaluation of a player," Belichick told reporters on Wednesday. "I don't think that's the way to go, especially at this time of year."

Patriots owner Robert Kraft, who admitted to being involved in the discussions to sign Tebow, was more forthcoming about the quarterback.

"I was just out there for a short period, but to me, he looked pretty good," Kraft told reporters of Tebow's practice on Tuesday. "It's fun having him here. I think that Tom Brady throws pretty well and I also think Ryan Mallet does the same. So it's nice to have three quarterbacks who can throw very well."
