Google has decided to make its Chromecast streaming device available in India thanks to collaboration with Bharthi Airtel, the biggest mobile carrier in the country, according to CNET.
The Chromecast streaming stick is currently available in over 10 countries, which include the U.S., Germany and Denmark.
"Customers in India are showing an increasing preference for convergence of their laptop, smartphone, tablet, and TV screens," said Anand Chandrasekaran, chief product officer of Bharthi Airtel.
Chromecast, which costs $35 in the U.S. will be available in India at Google's Play Store, starting Wednesday, Dec. 10, for 2,000 rupees (around $50). Airtel stores and the e-commerce site Snapdeal will also be selling the device.
Users will be treated with support for YouTube, Google Play Movies and Google Play Music and apps from Eros Now, Spuul, Yupptv and other local partners.
The Chromcast initiative in India is part of Google's goal of providing developing populations high-quality, affordable Android smartphones. Gaining a foothold in India's consumer market is also a big priority for the search giant, which also launched its Android One program in the country.
