Man Trapped in Denver Restaurant Wall, Freed by Police

Denver police responded to a report later Tuesday night of a man falling through the ceiling of a Yard House after living in the rafters above the restaurant.

James Ballinger with the Denver Police Department said the man was seen walking through the space for the water pipes and HVAC system when firefighters arrived at the scene, according to The Denver Post. He added that the man disappeared and broke one of the water pipes in the process, which flooded the restaurant and the Sheraton Hotel nearby.

The police checked the ceiling area, discovering multiple alcohol bottle caps and that the man was living above the ceiling tiles for a while, 9NEWS.com reported.

"I have not seen a call like this ever," Ballinger said.

It wasn't until three hours later that the officers found the man, who was heard moaning from near the entrance of the Yard House, The Associated Press reported. After pulling back some booth chairs, they saw his feet sticking out of the wall.

Firefighters managed to get him out with help from a chain saw.

Ballinger said the man was only wearing pants when he and felling officers found him, 9NEWS.com reported.

The man was taken to a hospital afterwards, and he is currently facing charges for damage done to the restaurant.

"I work downtown, so there's a lot of crazy stuff all the time, but this sends it over the edge," said Denver resident Nicole Frisen.
