Kirsten Dunst has worked almost exclusively in movies for the last 15 years, but she will make her debut as a TV series regular in the second season of FX's "Fargo." The 32-year-old actress will star alongside "Breaking Bad" alum Jesse Plemons.
Production will begin in Calgary in January and FX will premiere the 10-episode season in fall of 2015. The FX anthology series is loosely adapted from the Coen brothers' 1996 film "Fargo."
Season two will revisit the 1979 Sioux Falls incident mentioned in the first season episode "A Fox, a Rabbit, and a Cabbage" involving Molly's (Allison Tolman) father Lou Solverson (Keith Carradine) when he was still a state trooper.
"Lou [is now] a 33-year-old man, recently back from Vietnam. We would meet Molly's mother, and we may learn what happened to her," showrunner Noah Hawley told reporters at the Television Critics Association in July.
"Fargo" will feature an entirely new cast, including a younger actor to play the 1979 version of Solverson, but the story exists in the same universe as season one. The show will take place in Fargo, North Dakota and Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Dunst recently guest starred on the TV show "Portlandia" and had a recurring role during the third season of "ER." Her film credits include the "Spider-Man" trilogy, "Marie Antoinette," "Bring It On" and "Melancholia."
