When it comes to Sam Bradford, the highly paid, injury prone quarterback of the Rams, it's much easier to envision him off the roster and headed to a new NFL destination come the offseason than it is to see him sticking around St. Louis for the foreseeable future.
But, if a recent report is accurate, the latter of those two scenarios is actually the more likely one to occur.
Rams coach Jeff Fisher recently told NFL Network national reporter Albert Breer that not only does he want Bradford back, but that he may be the 2015 starter.
"A bright young Rams team gets on national TV tonight. Their long-tern QB question is lingering. But I'm told Sam Bradford is still in plans," Breer tweeted earlier today.
"Bradford is the only Rams QB under contract for 2015. His numbers ($16.6M cap/$13.0M cash) will need working. But the brass wants him back," he continued.
Bradford, the last of the first-overall draft picks to benefit from the pre-rookie wage scale era, has a pretty ludicrous contract, but is in the second-to-last year of his deal. The first step toward bringing him back for next season would be a restructuring.
His injury history makes him seem like an unreliable option - he missed from Week 8 on last season and the entirety of this season with knee injuries - so he probably doesn't have much leverage for negotiations. But he's also still under contract and carries a fairly significant dead money value.
He had his best statistical year in 2012, when he played in all 16 games - only the second time he's done that in his career - and threw 21 touchdowns and only 13 interceptions.
Fisher told Breer that the reason he took the job in the first place was because of owner Stan Kroenke, but also because he relished the opportunity to work with Bradford.
Breer, who notes that Bradford has been around the team on a daily basis and has traveled on every road trip, says that the Rams are still very likely to add a quarterback in the draft.
