A Louisiana cop is now out of a job and facing charges after he had sex with a woman in exchange for letting her go, local sheriffs said.
Brian Martin was a deputy for the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office in New Orleans until Monday, when he was fired and arrested for malfeasance in office, sheriff's office spokesman Colonel John Fortunato told The Times-Picayune.
On Oct. 8, the 38-year-old patrol deputy went to an unnamed woman's house in Old Jefferson in response to a report about property stolen from a car, Fortunato said. Upon taking down details of the theft, Martin discovered the woman had a warrant out for her arrest, among two other Jefferson Parish charges, the newspaper reported.
But instead of cuffing the woman, Martin said he would not arrest her if she would have sex with him, police said. The woman agreed.
No one knew about the alleged rendezvous until another deputy was sent to the same Sam Lenox Street home last Saturday after the woman called again to report a theft. When the second deputy told her about her warrant, she told him about the deal she struck with Martin, Fortunato told the newspaper.
However, things turned out differently this time and the deputy arrested the woman. He also told the sheriff's office about the alleged deal, The Times-Picayune reported.
Martin admitted to sleeping with the woman and he was booked at the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center in Gretna, Louisiana. He is now out on $5,000 bond.
