New York City MTA workers converting a 6 train for use on the 7 line were caught off guard when they apparently spotted bed bugs on each other's clothing.
The workers were inside of the train when the bed bugs were first spotted. Upon checking for the source of the bugs, the workers found the critters crawling under the blue seats and on top of the heaters, reported My Fox NY.
Unnamed insiders told My Fox NY these bed bugs likely came from where the conductors and train operators sit, although they could also be in the heaters throughout the train.
Two other 6 trains were already converted for the 7 line, which also apparently was infested with bed bugs, the same insiders said.
An MTA spokesman said the bed bug allegations are false, although he acknowledged that on Dec. 5 workers complained of bed bugs at the Pelham Bronx maintenance yard in 6 trains being converted for the 7 line.
The MTA apparently sent a vendor to the train yard who did not find any bed bugs, reported My Fox NY.
Kawasaki, the railroad assembly plant in Yonkers, N.Y., where the trains were being converted, did not comment on the story.
