Agent Melinda May rarely speaks of her personal life, so a surprise visit by her ex-husband will likely throw a wrench in keeping her past a secret from her S.H.I.E.L.D. teammates.
"Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." has enlisted Blair Underwood to play the recurring role of May's (Ming-Na Wen) estranged ex-husband Dr. Andrew Garner, according to The Hollywood Reporter. He will make his debut after the Marvel TV show returns from its winter hiatus on March 3.
"Very excited to announce, 'Into The Marvel Universe we go!!'" Underwood tweeted on Nov. 11.
Underwood's recent credits include the Lifetime TV movie "The Trip to Bountiful," starring opposite Cicely Tyson and Vanessa Williams. He reprised his role with the actresses in Los Angeles and Boston performances. He also spent his summer in the theater, acting in the Old Globe's production of "Othello."
His other credits include roles in ABC's "Dirty Sexy Money," CBS's "The New Adventures of Old Christine" and HBO's "In Treatment."
He joins a host of new cast members in season two including Adrianne Palicki, Nick Blood, Henry Simmons, Adrian Pasdar, Reed Diamond and Lucy Lawless. The latter two already met their fates along with B.J. Britt, who joined the cast at the end of season one.
"Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." will return after ABC airs the seven-week event series "Agent Carter," also from Marvel.
