A scuba diver found a lost wedding ring while diving in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, and used the Internet to successfully return it to its owner.
Daniel Roark, 21, was determined to find the owners of the missing ring.
"It's been a huge burden in many ways," Roark told BuzzFeed News. "After the ring post took off virally, I've been spending four to five hours a day responding to messages, following up emails, pursuing leads."
Roark posted the picture on Facebook which was shared more than 127,000 times.
About 50 people made false claims about being the owner of the ring until he found the rightful owner, reported BuzzFeed News.
When the couple who owned the ring, Jessica Garza-Castillo and Martin Castillo of the Mexican state of Tamaulipas, contacted Roark they provided him with a receipt from the jeweler and verified the inscription on the inside of the band, reported BuzzFeed News.
Castillo apparently lost his ring while they were on their honeymoon while scuba diving in February 2013 and were convinced that they would never get the ring back.
When the couple contacted Roark he thought it was just another scam.
"When I first starting read it, I thought, 'Yeah, right,'" Roark said to BuzzFeed News. "I was just thinking it was another person scamming me. I had read all this before. But then I saw a photo from their wedding, and she sent a photo of the two matching rings together. It was starting to look like this was actually theirs, and I was starting to get a little shaky."
