The first trailer for 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' revealed many of the new characters entering the galaxy far, far away, but gave no mention of their names. The film's creators have decided to share that information now, still a year before the film comes out.
Writer-director J.J. Abrams and Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm, identified each of the six new characters to Entertainment Weekly as retro trading cards. The cards harken back to the Topps trading cards release for the original 1977 "Star Wars" film that featured characters and scenes from the movie.
Each of the cards comes lined in red or blue and has a corresponding number spanning from 11 to 96. Abrams and Kennedy did not revealed if more cards would be released, according to EW.
Here are the six character names:
- The rolling droid bot is named BB-8.
- Oscar Isaac's X-Wing pilot is Poe Dameron
- The mysterious caped figure carrying the now infamous cross-guard lightsaber is Kylo Ren
- Speeder cruiser Daisy Ridley is Rey.
- John Boyega, dressed as a Stormtrooper, is Finn
The last three cards display scenes from the movie including the Stormtroopers lining up for battle, the X-Wings in flight formation and the Millenium Falcon flying into enemy territory.
The cards and the trailer have yet to reveal the characters played by Lupita Nyong'o, Gwendoline Christie, Adam Driver, Domhnall Gleeson, Max von Sydow and Andy Serkis (although he did narrate the trailer). "Star Wars" veterans Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford or Carrie Fisher also have not made an appearance yet.
"Star Wars: The Force Awakes" will premiere in theaters on Dec. 18, 2015.
