In an Instagram post from "The Flash's" Robbie Amell (brother of "Arrow's" Stephen Amell), he seems to show off his Firestorm costume on set. The shot is from a good distance away...which makes it more tantalizing than illuminating, but it is clearly nothing like Firestorm's familiar red and yellow duds in the comics. This new outfit seems more in line with the "Prime Earth" version of Firestorm which is less iconic and well known.
Check out Amell's post here. Thanks to CBR for the heads up:
For the uninitiated, the original Firestorm was distinguished by his integrated dual identity. High school student Ronnie Raymond and Nobel Prize-winning physicist Martin Stein were caught in a nuclear accident that allowed them to fuse into the "nuclear man" Firestorm. Due to Stein's being unconscious during the accident, Raymond was prominently in command of the Firestorm form with Stein a voice of reason inside his mind. At the outset, Stein was completely ignorant of their dual identity, leaving him concerned about his unusual disappearances and blackouts, but Ronnie was eventually able to convince him of the truth, allowing them to bond as separate individuals rather than as parts of a whole.
After the accident that created him, Firestorm took to defending New York from such threats as Multiplex and Killer Frost. The 1982 series began with the teenaged Raymond adjusting to his newfound role and later delved into the issue of the nuclear arms race and Firestorm’s role as an "elemental."
For the TV version, it seems the show’s creators are following the original character’s origin fairly closely. Although, Raymond is much older in the show and was the fiancé of STAR Labs Caitlin Snow, but well-known character actor Victor Garber has already been cast as the other half of the Firestorm persona, Dr. Martin Stein. The how’s and why’s as to the fusion of these two characters on the show remains to be seen.
