Stephen Colbert will welcome his longtime friend Grimmy as his final guest on "The Colbert Report," but the visit could spell the end for the political pundit.
Before Grimmy arrives, Colbert will start his last week of shows on Monday, Dec. 18. His final guests include "The Interview" star Seth Rogen on Monday, rapper Kendrick Lamar on Tuesday, and veteran and author Phil Klay on Wednesday.
"Our last week of shows are going to be really special, just like every other week," Colbert said in a statement.
The Grim Reaper character Grimmy has visited "The Colbert Report" several times since Colbert announced his departure to CBS's "Late Show." The soulless Grimmy has tried to drop hints on Colbert's fate, but the dimwitted host has yet to pick up on them.
When Colbert asked his "travel agent" Grimmy where he would take his well-earned vacation when the show ended, the Reaper first pointed to Colbert's burning fireplace and then made devil horns with his bony fingers.
"So someplace warm with goat horns?" the host asked during the Oct. 30 episode. He then guessed, "Greece! Opa!"
On another visit earlier that month, Grimmy visited Colbert when the comedian announced he had only 32 shows left. Grimmie made several indications that death could come soon by flipping over an hourglass and pointing to Colbert, pointing at a portrait of Colbert and then running his finger across his neck, and holding a sign with a skull and crossbones with the number 32 on it.
The late-night comedian also has wondered how his show will conclude. He gave one scenario in October that involved television's most famous endings from "Newhart," "St. Elsewhere," "Friends," "M.A.S.H." and "The Sopranos."
"Will I wake up next to Suzanne Pleshette, in a snow globe, after Rachel gets off the plane to be with me, while B.J. Hunnicut writes-out 'Goodbye' in rocks until we cut to black in the middle of a Journey song?" Colbert wondered. "Or will I just get sued for copyright infringement?"
CBS recently announced Letterman's final "Late Show" will take place on May 20, but gave no official start date for Colbert yet.
"The Colbert Report" airs at 11:30 p.m. on Comedy Central.
