Former CNN morning news show host and TV personality Soledad O'Brien will be making her return to television this month on HBO's hit series "Real Sports", reuniting with former "Today" show co-worker Bryant Gumbel, according to MSN TV News.
HBO announced on Wednesday that O'Brien, 46, will be joining the sports show, and her first assignment will be about harrowing war veterans who use martial arts to recover from post-traumatic stress disorder.
"It's exactly what I've been doing for a long time - telling stories about human beings and their struggles," O'Brien told reporters.
The journalist recently announced her departure as anchor on CNN's "Starting Point" to pursue a career in a number of different areas, particularly with her production company, Starfish Media Group, Us Magazine reported.
Working with HBO will give the company access to all of O'Brien's Starfish Media projects, which mainly focus on "creating and selling documentaries to networks," USA Today said.
Two examples of her doing this in the past were the popular CNN documentaries "Black in America" and "Latino in America".
HBO and CNN are both Time Warner assets under the Turner Broadcasting umbrella. O'Brien also has plans to visit her alma mater as a visiting fellow at Harvard's Graduate School of Education during the next school year, according to USA Today.
Another venture of O'Brien's is the Soledad O'Brien & Brad Raymond Foundation, which provides resources in financial aid and vocational counseling to young women in a proprietary scholars' institute and scholarship program.
Its pillars are "Impact," "Advocacy," and "Education."
The foundation provides "young women with a bridge between obstacles and opportunity, by giving them the resources to overcome barriers and reach their highest potential," the mission statement reads.
