Marvel gives away very little in its official synopsis for the studio's next superhero movie "Ant-Man," starring Paul Rudd and Michael Douglas.
"The next evolution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe brings a founding member of The Avengers to the big screen for the first time with Marvel Studios' 'Ant-Man.' Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, master thief Scott Lang [Rudd] must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym [Douglas], protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world."
The film also stars Evangeline Lilly as Hope Van Dyne, Corey Stoll as Darren Cross, a.k.a. Yellowjacket, Bobby Cannavale as Paxton, Michael Peña as Luis, Judy Greer as Maggie, Tip "Ti" Harris as Dave, David Dastmalchian as Kurt, Wood Harris as Gale and Jordi Mollà as Castilloand.
Marvel characters seen in previous films such as Howard Stark, Peggy Carter, Armin Zola and a young Alexander Pierce (previously portrayed by Robert Redford) may make an appearance in "Ant-Man" as well.
The writing credits for the film remain undetermined since director-writer Edgar Wright, who dropped off the project in May, wrote the original screenplay. Marvel brought on Peyton Reed to direct and Adam McKay to do a re-write.
"Ant-Man" will hit theaters on July 17, 2015. The premiere falls in a peculiar position between "Avengers: Age of Ultron," which will wrap up Marvel's Phase II and "Captain America: Civil War," which will kick off Phase III.
