Could season four of CW's "Hart of Dixie" be its final run?
Season four of the southern romance comedy was pushed back for a midseason premiere with only 10 episodes, which will air on Friday nights. Fans may not get the chance to see Zoe (Rachel Bilson) and Wade's (Wilson Bethal) romance come to an end or develop without a full season.
In an interview with E! News, executive producer Leila Gerstein did not officially say that Season 4 of the show would be its last, but she did weigh in on the show's fate.
"Well, I can't speak to that, as the decision to renew or cancel is out of my hands," Gerstein told E! News. "I can tell the fans that this season is for you and you're going to love this season. No one is going to feel unsatisfied by the end. Obviously we hope for many, many more seasons but everyone will be happy with this season."
What can fans look forward to in the 10 episodes of season four?
"This is a short season, obviously, as it's only 10 episodes, but they are jam-packed with story," Gerstein said. "Everyone is going to be satisfied that by the end of the 10 episodes, all the central love triangles have been resolved, all the central questions have been answered and we're going to have a lot of fun along the way. We have been saving a lot of stuff for each of the stories and we decided to burn through it all this year."
So, what will happen to everyone's favorite couple, Zoe and Wade? Season three ended with Zoe confessing her love to Wade, but he rejected her proposal of starting over.
"She begins the season trying to get Wade to ask her on a date to the movies and Wade is like, 'I expected more effort from you.' So she has to up her game throughout the course of the premiere," Gerstein said. "She's going to try to make a grand romantic gesture and when that doesn't work, she tries to seduce him."
"After all this time where it's been Wade going after Zoe, it's really satisfying and good to see that position switched. Zoe and Wade fans are going to be so excited to see that despite all the pushing and pulling and fighting and the uncertainty, when these two people get together there is a spark. There is more than friendship, there is real love between them. They clearly should both get over their issues and be together. Zoe and Wade belong together and they're destined to be together."
The Season 4 premiere of "Hart of Dixie" airs on Monday, Dec. 15 at 9 pm, before moving to its regular time slot on Friday, Jan. 9, at 8 p.m. on the CW.
