Both teams head into Monday's contest with 5-8 records. Chicago is on a two-game losing streak after a 41-28 loss to the Dallas Cowboys on Dec. 4. While the Bears' defense has been suspect at best, much of the criticism for the team's losing record has fallen onto quarterback Jay Cutler. The veteran has committed 21 turnovers - a league-tying six fumbles and 15 interceptions, which are tied for second-most - since signing his $126.7 million extension in January.
Despite the myriad turnovers, coach Marc Trestman has stood by his quarterback.
"Jay and I talk daily. I think he has a very good understanding of how we feel about him. There's a lot of noise out there. We're all aware of that," Trestman said, via ESPN. "All we're trying to do here is to get our football team in a position that we can be better on Monday night.
"The focus inside this building is exactly that and has always been exactly that week to week. That's all that's been important to all of us here."
New Orleans hasn't played well this season, either. They've lost four of their last five games, including a 41-10 blowout at home against the Carolina Panthers on Dec. 7. Despite the losing record, however, the Saints are still just a half-game out from the top spot in the NFC South.
"The only reason we're sitting here still with that small sliver of hope is just because the way the division has unfolded this year," said Saints coach Sean Payton.
