On top of revealing plenty of juicy details about the plans for the Spider-Man franchise, the massive Sony email breach has also given us some insight into other studios' superhero projects.
Following on the news that "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" directors Joe and Anthony Russo will direct the two-part "Avengers: Infinity War," the latest details to emerge involve Warner Bros.' 2018 "Aquaman" movie.
According to emails from Columbia's Michael De Luca seen by The Daily Beast, Jeff Nichols is set to direct the "Aquaman" solo film, which will see Jason Momoa ("Game of Thrones") taking on the role of Arthur Curry/the King of Atlantis following his debut appearance in next year's "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice." Nichols' previous credits include "Shotgun Stories," "Take Shelter" and "Mud."
Given the smaller, indie scope of his previous films, Nichols seems like an odd choice to direct a large-scale, superhero-action film. Maybe the studio knows something about him that the general public doesn't? Maybe he's the world biggest Aquaman fan? I guess we'll all just have to wait and see on this one.
So far, aside from Zack Snyder, the only other directors attached to Warner Bros.' DC slate are David Ayer ("Fury"), who is set to direct 2016's "Suicide Squad," and Michelle MacLaren ("Breaking Bad"), who will helm the 2017 "Wonder Woman" flick.
