A cow weighing 1,000 pounds being prepared for slaughter in Idaho jumped over a 6-foot fence and ran through the streets of Pocatello before it was shot and killed by police, the Huffington Post reported on Sunday.
Pocatello Police Chief Scott Marchand said that officers shot the cow twice because it was a safety risk for onlookers.
The cow made a beeline out of Anderson Custom Pack, a meat processing company, on Friday. An officer shot the animal in the head early on in the pursuit, but it kept running.
Animal control personnel and police chased the heifer on foot and in vehicles through the northern side of the city. It ran into two police cars and an animal control truck, according to My Fox Houston.
In the backyard of a nearby home about three miles from the processor, the animal was cornered and shot by a police officer. Police were allegedly afraid that it could trample someone in one of the residential neighborhoods.
