Information and conjecture regarding a sequel to the 1988 classic "Beetlejuice" has been popping up here and there over the past year or so. It seems that the original film's director, Tim Burton, is on board, and that means Michael Keaton is in for reprising the lead role. (Keaton told MTV in February that if Burton was indeed doing the film, he was in.)
So, where does that leave the original film's female lead, Ms. Winona Ryder?
Once again, MTV posed that question to Burton...will Ryder be back to play Lydia Deetz? The eccentric Burton's answer is, well, typical Burton:
"Oh yeah, yeah yeah yeah," Burton said. "Oh yeah, oh yeah. Yeah yeah, oh yeah."
That's nine "yeah's" for those counting. So, one can safely assume from that stream of "yeah's" that Ryder will be reprising her well-known role.
In "Beetlejuice," Ryder played the teen goth who makes friends with the ghosts haunting her parent's home. The auteur went on to describe that just recently he had a chance to reconnect with Ryder:
"I worked with [Ryder], I hadn't seen her in a while... and she was so great," Burton said. "I was so happy to see her. So those kinds of elements mean something to me. Michael, and her... and that character, I just miss it, there's some freedom about that character that I love."
All in all, it sounds rather promising that we'll be seeing "Beetlejuice 2" sometime in the not-too-distant future. You can also check out MTV's video interview with Burton below:
