An American Airlines flight that left Seoul, South Korea, for Dallas on Tuesday made an emergency landing at the Narita airport in Japan after encountering turbulence that left 14 people injured, ABC News reported.
"American's primary concern at this time is for our passengers and crew on board the airplane and our team in Narita is providing assistance," American Airlines said in a statement.
The plane landed just before 1 a.m. with a total of 255 people, including 15 crew members, on board, according to officials. Five people sought treatment at a hospital for non-life threatening injuries, and roughly nine others were treated at the scene, according to the Weather Channel.
A powerful storm that brought 200-240-mph twinds in the jet stream about 35,000 feet above sea level caused the turbulence. The plane crossed through a particularly strong section of jet stream winds.
Parts of Hokkaido, Japan. are reporting two feet of snow due to the storm, while the town of Shintoku, Japan, reported 9 inches of snow in just two hours. Hiroshima, in western Japan, has about 2 inches of snow.
