NFL Rumors: San Francisco 49ers DL Ray McDonald’s House Searched by Police as Part of Rape Investigation

UPDATE: The San Francisco 49ers have released Ray McDonald.

The San Jose Police have served San Francisco 49ers defensive lineman Ray McDonald a warrant as part of a rape investigation, ABC 7 reports.

According to the report, an adult woman received treatment at a local hospital for a potential sexual assault that occurred Tuesday. The hospital reached out to San Jose police shortly after treating the woman.

The victim apparently alleged that she was "possibly sexually assaulted." At the onset of the preliminary investigation, McDonald is the alleged suspect.

McDonald was also investigated in August and September for a domestic violence incident. However, he was not charged with a crime.

Had the police found evidence to further the investigation into McDonald over the summer, he would have been the first NFL player to be tried under the league's then-new domestic violence and sexual assault policy. McDonald will now become the first potential case under the new personal conduct policy. He will be suspended with pay if charged with a crime.

The regular season ends in two weeks and the 49ers have been eliminated from playoff contention. The NFL will have the entirety of the offseason to determine whether to discipline McDonald.
