A man dressed as Santa Claus robbed a California bank last Saturday afternoon as a SantaCon street party was in full swing, KBCW reported.
Scores of red and white-clad partiers were gathered in the streets of San Francisco when the sly St. Nick walked into a Wells Fargo branch in the city's Union Square. The suspect, believed to be in his 40s or 50s, handed a note demanding an unreported amount of money to the teller, who then handed over the cash before he left the bank on Sutter Street, police said.
It was not immediately clear if he was armed.
The fake Santa, described as a 5-foot-11 man wearing a beard that didn't fit, was apparently able to blend in with the SantaCon crowd around Union Square, KBCW reported.
San Francisco police are now investigating the holiday theft with the FBI.
SantaCon, a massive yearly pub crawl, began in San Francisco in 1994 but has since spread nationally and internationally, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
