A 14-year-old killed an intruder at his home in North Carolina on Tuesday, and a second suspect involved in the break-in has been arrested, My Fox 8 reported.
The intruders were identified as 18-year-old Isai Delcid and 22-year-old Carlos Delcid, who tried to burglarize the boy's home on Rolling Fields Lane near the Charlotte/Mint Hill border around 5 p.m., police said. Carlos fled while Isai died from gunshot wounds at the scene.
Police took Carlos into custody and charged him with first-degree burglary on Tuesday night.
The 14-year-old's grandmother and grandfather were at home with the boy during the incident. George Wyant, his grandfather, admitted that his young grandson shot the intruder.
"It's not something you can be proud of. But I'm happy the way it turned out. Because my wife is getting over an illness," Wyant said.
According to Wyant, the suspects parked in the driveway, ascended the steps to his back porch and tried to enter the house via a back window. That's when the boy went to the window and told them to knock it off, WSOC reported.
"He was coming through the window and my grandson said, 'Stop, I have a gun,'" Wyant said.
The grandfather said he believes his home was targeted after the men saw his wife's prescription medication while repairing ducts in the addict. He had taken the boy to the shooting range before, but he was surprised with how quick he acted when the intruders were breaking in.
