Stevie Wonder has become a father for the ninth time.
The 64-year-old soul singer and his girlfriend Tomeeka Robyn Bracy welcomed a baby girl earlier this week, Wonder's rep confirmed to US Weekly. The couple named their daughter Nia, which means "purpose." This is the second child for Wonder and Bracy.
He also has seven other children from previous relationships ranging in ages from 12 months to 39 years old. Wonder confirmed that his girlfriend was expecting last month during an appearance on "The View." He also clarified rumors that Bracy was pregnant with triplets.
At the time, Page Six was reporting that Wonder was preparing for his 9th, 10th and 11th child.
"It's Stevie's mechanisms for his happiness," a source told the newspaper at the time. "I don't know that he set out to have 11 children, including triplets at this age, but it's not like he isn't happy about it."
On "The View," Wonder joked, "I got, how many, 22 kids?"
"It's not true. The truth is we're going to have a wonderful daughter, born in December, [and her] name is going to be Nia, which is 'purpose,'" he told the ladies on "The View."
Rumors of Bracy's pregnancy first surfaced in October after The National Enquirer reported that she was expecting another baby with the "Superstition" singer.
"Stevie never thought he'd be a father again so late in life. It may not have been planned but now he's excited!" the source said. "He's been going to all the doctor's visits and scans with Tomeeka. He actually can't wait until the birth. Stevie missed so much of his other children's upbringings, he's vowed to be there for their children and for his soon-to-be new wife."
