Security guards at a Florida Wal-Mart store were distracted by a man faking a heart attack while his friend managed to rob a motorized Barbie car and vacation house on Tuesday, police said.
Unfortunately for 30-year-old Tarus Scott and 27-year-old Genard Dupree, their cunning Christmas-present plan failed after surveillance cameras caught them carrying out the caper at the Lake Wales store, according to ActionNewsJax. The duo have been arrested and charged with grand theft.
On Tuesday, the thieves entered the store and loaded their shopping cart with a motorized power wheel Barbie car, Leap Frog tablet and a Barbie Glam vacation house - worth a combined total of $369 - before initiating the fake drama, the Polk County Sheriff's office said.
According to security video surveillance, Dupree can be seen falling to the ground near the store entrance while clutching his chest, reports First Coast News. As concerned citizens check on him and employees stop to help, with one customer even appearing to make a 911 call, Scott can be seen walking out of the store with the cart.
As soon as Scott makes his way out, Dupree miraculously gets up, with his hand still pressed on his heart, before slowly making his way out of the store, CBS News reported. Although the pair escaped in a silver SUV, they were soon caught by deputies and arrested.
Meanwhile, Scott and Dupree have extensive criminal histories, deputies said, adding that Scott had recently been released after serving 10 years in state prison. It remains unclear whether they have attorneys, according to CBS affiliate WKMG.
Dupree fakes the heart attack at about the 3:30 mark of the surveillance video below:
