NFL RUMORS: Mike Vick Wants To Play For Washington Redskins?

Mike Vick wants to be a member of the...Washington Redskin? Apparently.

The New York Jets signal-caller, perhaps the most athletically gifted player to ever man the quarterback position, is, with every passing season, inching ever closer to the end of his NFL career.

But the now-elder statesman still doesn't lack for confidence.

When asked recently by Kimberley A. Martin of Newsday.com whether he still thinks he can be a franchise quarterback, Vick didn't shy away from the question or from offering a particularly forceful answer.

"I can be the face of any franchise,'' he said. "Hopefully, there will be an opportunity for me in 2015. And that's what I'm looking forward to.''

Vick, a native of Virginia who played his college ball at Virginia Tech, hopes that opportunity comes in the form of the nearby Redskins.

"That's home,'' Vick said, beaming like a child, according to Martin. "That's home for me. Don't get me excited. Don't get me excited.''

The 34-year-old was already excited though, and expounded on his thoughts about the notion of playing for owner Dan Snyder's team.

"I'm open to playing for anybody that wants to win,'' Vick said. "But obviously, going back home, I mean, that'll be a dream come true,'' he said, smiling again. "But I would hate to get my hopes up for something that wouldn't happen. So I can't even think about it right now.''

Besides potentially playing for his hometown team, Vick was also giddy at the prospect of reuniting with former Eagle teammate, DeSean Jackson - the two even discussed a reunion after Vick signed with New York.

"Being honest, yeah, we talked about it once I signed,'' Vick said. "And of course, DeSean is my little brother. I'm not saying he wanted to follow me, but he also knows what type of player I am and I know how to get him the ball."

"I know his speed, I know his acceleration path, I know when he's coming out of his breaks. There's nobody that knows DeSean Jackson better than me. I think he knows that, and we were just trying to position ourselves to be together again, but it didn't work out.''

At this point, it's all just a dream. But it sure would be fun to see.
