Amazon is ensuring Prime members in New York City get their packages within one hour with its new delivery service called Prime Now.
The service was launched Thursday in Manhattan, covering thousands of essential products like paper towels, shampoo, dish detergent, books, toys and batteries that can be ordered and delivered in an hour or less, according to Business Insider.
Becoming an Amazon Prime member requires a subscription that costs $99 a year.
"There are times when you can't make it to the store and other times when you simply don't want to go. There are so many reasons to skip the trip and now Prime members in Manhattan can get the items they need delivered in an hour or less," David Clark, senior vice president of worldwide operations at Amazon, said in a press release, adding that Prime members will "love this service."
"We've long felt that Amazon Prime is the best deal in the history of shopping and now it has gotten even better."
The e-commerce giant is also providing a dedicated Prime Now app for iOS and Android that can send alerts for when the service is available in the user's area, TechCrunch reported. Prime Now will deliver items between six a.m. and midnight, seven days a week, for $7.99 per item, and two-hour delivery is free.
Prime members outside of NYC won't have to wait too long to use Prime Now, as Amazon plans on making the one-hour delivery service available in additional cities through 2015.
