James Gunn has a list of possibilities of who fathered "Guardians of the Galaxy" leader Peter Quill a.k.a. Star-Lord. Unfortunately, recent events have forced to Gunn to eliminate one - North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.
The Marvel director shared the list of 10 choices with his 71,300 followers on Instagram. He crossed out Jong-un's name and wrote "Nope," next to it.
He also listed the villain Galactus from the "Fantastic Four" comics and J'Son of Spartax, who was the father of Peter Quill in the "Guardians of the Galaxy." Gunn already nixed the possibility of the latter shortly after the movie debuted in August.
"It's definitely not the character who it is in the comics, I'll say that much," he told Empire magazine.
Other possibilities from the Marvel universe include Martinex, a character from the "Guardians" comics; Tony Stark a.k.a. Iron Man "from the future"; Howard the Duck, who made a cameo in the post-credits scene of the "Guardians" movie; and Ben Parker, the uncle of Peter Parker a.k.a. Spider-Man.
Gunn also listed "Star Wars" Jedi knight Luke Skywalker (Disney owns both the "Star Wars" franchise and Marvel studios) and Kevin Bacon, whose movie, "Footloose," is mentioned by Peter in the "Guardians of the Galaxy."
Peter's father remained one of the biggest mysteries at the end of this summer's blockbuster hit. Gunn has not said if the "Guardians" sequel will reveal the father, but it's a conversation he's having with a very select group of people.
"There have been a lot of documents passed around about who Peter Quill's father is between a select two or three of us," Gunn told Empire. "That's been part of the plan since the beginning, that's something I had to work out before we shot the screenplay. We wanted to make sure Yondu's place in everything made sense and it does, so it's all very specific stuff."
"Guardians of the Galaxy 2" will premiere on May 5, 2017.
