Google Maps Now Lets You Go on Virtual Tours in Street View

Google Maps fans and virtual reality fans will be happy to hear that that a new VR mode has been added to the search giant's navigation app for Android.

This means that anyone with a Google Cardboard viewer can go to Street View and go on virtual journeys through different cities around the world while relaxing on their couch at home, according to Tom's Guide.

Double-tapping the refresh icon on the bottom right corner of the screen will open up Street View and split the screen in two. Google has yet to announce which destinations VR Mode will support, or if the feature will be available to iOS owners.

The $22 Dodo Case Cardboard and the $22 I Am Cardboard are available in stores now, Tom's Guide reported. It's also possible for you to create your own Google Cardboard. All you need is velcro, magnets, rubber bands, lenses, and cardboard.

Street View is only one of the options Google Maps provides for virtual tours, as Business View lets you walk into restaurants, department stores and move and TV sets, and an indoor floorplan features lets you map out the inside different locations before going inside them in real life, Mashable reported.

4.7 inches is the limit for Android phones that will fit in the Cardboard holder. The regular headset is available for $10 online.

The VR Mode is the most recent announcement Google has made for its Cardboard headset, announcing earlier this month that it has managed to ship over 500,000 units and that it is hiring VR developers in order expand its efforts with the technology.
