Obama Lets Only Female Reporters Ask Questions at Year-End News Conference

At President Barack Obama's year-end news conference Friday, he answered eight questions in a row from eight female journalists.

Obama did not call on any men or anyone representing the major TV networks during his news conference, according to The Washington Examiner.

Obama took questions from female reporters representing the Associated Press, Bloomberg BNA, McClatchy, Politico, Reuters, the Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post and American Urban Radio.

Josh Earnest, Obama's press secretary, said Obama deliberately chose to answer questions solely from female reporters.

"The fact is, there are many women from a variety of news organizations who day-in and day-out do the hard work of covering the president of the United States," Earnest said after the news conference.

According to The L.A. Times, the list of reporters the president chooses to answer questions from is predetermined.

A White House official said Earnest made the list, which Obama said is his "who's been naughty, and who's been nice" list.

Furthermore, Earnest said he informed the television networks prior to the news conference that they would not be called on.

Earnest wrote in an email to the L.A. Times that the networks had the opportunity to ask the president two questions since the midterm elections in November.

In addition, the press secretary said all but one, Fox News, has held a one-on-one interview session in that time.
