Florida Cop's Alleged Shooter Identified As Marco Antonio Parilla

Marco Antonio Parilla Jr. is being charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of Florida police officer Charles Kondek early on Sunday, the Daily News reported.

Antonio, 23, is said to have shot Kondek, 45, at about 3 a.m. in Tarpon Springs after responding to a call. He was a 17-year veteran of the police department and had five children.

"Our hearts and prayers go out to the Kondek Family and our deepest sympathy," the Tarpoon Springs Police Department said in a statement, according to Bay News 9.

Kodnek was taken to a hospital where he later died. He worked the midnight shift for the force and was originally from New York, spending five years with the New York City Police Department before arriving in Florida.

Parilla is also being eyed in another crime where he fled a scene and crashed his white Hyundai sedan into a power, breaking it into two. After hitting the pole, he crashed into a pickup truck and was arrested.

The last officer who died on the Tarpon Springs force was Lanny Langford in a car crash in 1969. Kodak is the fourth officer in the force's history to be killed in the line of duty.

The incident comes just a day after two NYPD officers, Rafael Ramons and Wenjian Liu, were shot and killed in Brooklyn on Saturday afternoon by Ismaaiyl Brinsley. Brinsley then died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound in a nearby subway station. Early reports have indicated that Brinsley is responsible for killing his girlfriend shortly beforehand in Baltimore.
