Philadelphia Shooting: 3-Year-Old Struck By Stray Bullet Inside Home In South Philadelphia

A three-year-old was among two people struck by a stray bullet during a shooting in south Philadelphia on Monday morning, police authorities said. The unidentified gunman remains on the loose.

The child is reportedly in stable condition after having suffered a gunshot wound to his right thigh, the Associated Press reported.

The shooting took place shortly after 11:30 a.m. on Monday in the 1300 block of S. Newkirk Street in the city's Grays Ferry section, a police spokeswoman said.

The unknown gunman was allegedly searching for someone inside a home before he came out and approached a man on the street. An immediate argument between the two began, according to investigators.

At some point, the suspect pulled out a gun and opened fire, striking the other male in the right leg, according to CBS News. One of the bullets entered into the home next door and struck the three-year-old in his right leg.

The child was rushed to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, where he is listed in stable condition.

A 40-year-old man was also shot during the incident and was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania where he is listed in stable condition, Philadelphia police said.

Meanwhile, authorities are investigating the incident. There was no immediate word on the identity of the gunman, who remains at large, Philly.com reported.
