Psychic Presley "Rhonda" Gridley has been ordered to pay $6.8 million to a Texas couple after she incorrectly predicted that a mass grave existed in the backyard belonging to Joe Bankston and Gena Charlton.
It all began in 2011 when Gridley, a self-described psychic from Texas, reported to the Liberty County Sheriff's Office that she received a powerful vision. Following her guidance, the investigators believed that what she said was true - there was a mass grave in a family's backyard with over 30 dismembered bodies, some of which were children.
The story quickly swept up mass media attention and scrutiny. However, law officials ventured forward and commenced the digging on the property belonging to Joe Bankston and Gena Charlton. Much to the surprise of law officials and "Rhonda", there were no bodies found in the Texas property.
Bankston and Charlton then promptly sued Liberty county, various media outlets and Gridley for the damages caused to their property.
'Over the course of the day, media defendants began to exaggerate and eventually make up facts about Plaintiffs, including that a mass grave existed on the property, including the bodies of children,' the suit said.
'Whether it will be collectible, we're going to pursue that,' Dallas attorney Andrew Sommerman told the Houston Chronicle.
Now Gridley, who told the Houston Chronicle she's had visions her entire life, has been ordered to pay the couple $6.8 million.
She unfortunately failed to correctly predict the location of this mass grave, that is even if it exists in the first place, and failed to forsee she would be handed a whopping check to cover the enormous cost. Perhaps she will have better luck guessing the next set of winning lottery numbers to cover her dues.
