Jeremy Maclin took a risk this season by playing out the final year of his deal before entering free agency this offseason. It was even more of a risk considering he had missed all of last season with a torn ACL. But as the old adage goes, fortune favors the bold.
Maclin is set to cash in on the bet he placed on himself. The Eagles wide receiver remains confident that a long-term deal will get done with Philly. But with a stat line that includes 82 receptions for 1,269 yards and 10 touchdowns this year, Maclin won't want for suitors should he decide to move on.
"When the time's right, it'll get done," Maclin told CSNPhilly.com. "Both sides have made it clear that they want me to be here. They want me to be here, I want to be here. This is the place I want to be.
"As long as we can agree to something, this is where I want to be. If something else happens, that's what happens, but I try not to get caught up in that."
Maclin was hoping that an extension would be reached before the end of the season. But he isn't stressing about the lack of a deal.
"I'm not disappointed," Maclin said. "That's just how the process works sometimes. I changed agents and when you do that it almost resets you a little bit."
Maclin has remained productive despite the turnover and struggles between quarterbacks Nick Foles and Mark Sanchez this season. After the Eagles unceremoniously released DeSean Jackson and paid Riley Cooper, Maclin deserves a lucrative new contract that will keep him in Philly.
