Facebook To Unveil ‘New Product’ At A Mysterious Event Next Week

Facebook sent out invites to a mysterious event to be held next week at the company's headquarters in Menlo Park, California, where the social networking site plans to unveil a "new product."

Facebook has sent out invites for an event to be held on Thursday, June 20, at the company's headquarters at One Hacker Way in Menlo Park, California.

The details of the "new product" to be launched at the event remained shady as Facebook continues in true mysterious fashion to bring new surprises for its audience. Surprisingly, the invite did not come through email or Facebook, but a hard copy of the invite was sent to the reporters via snail mail, Friday.

ABC news received one such invite which reads, "A small team has been working on a big idea. Join us for coffee and learn about a new product." The invite was written on a clean white paper with a blue print. Facebook usually prefers digital mail for invites but the paper invite brings more curiosity about the "new product" and the mysterious event.

Facebook is in the process of updating and inventing services to attract new users and engage existing ones so it can target them with advertisements, which is a major source for the company's revenue. The social networking site started a new search service in January and updated its home page in March. Recently it introduced hashtags into its service-line. But what is next for Facebook?

Facebook had said earlier that it will be making further advancements in the coming weeks. "We'll continue to roll out more features in the coming weeks and months, including trending hashtags and deeper insights, that help people discover more of the world's conversations," Facebook's Greg Lindley wrote on the company's blog Wednesday.

The information about the new product remains hazy, but a few rumors about Facebook releasing a news reading service have been making the rounds. If Facebook does unveil a new RSS reader, it will be interesting to see how the California-based company will use the social data to create a reader.
