'Dr. Strange': Scott Derrickson Tweets First Image of Cumberbatch as the 'Master of the Mystic Arts?'

Director Scott Derrickson gave Marvel fans an early Christmas present the other night when he posted an image that appears to be Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange. It was supplemented with the quote "Strange but not a stranger," from the Talking Heads 1983 song "Burning Down the House." Is it a piece of fan art? Is it official? Either way, it's an endorsement from the director of the Phase Three film set for release November 4, 2016.

Check out the mysterious Benedict Cumberbatch Doctor Strange image (and Derrickson's corresponding tweet) below:

Again, this is not anything official. In fact, it's almost certainly a really good piece of fan art...or, possibly, a glimpse at some early concept art. But the fact the director of the film tweeted it for everyone and their brother to see gives it a little more weight. Even if this isn't the final look of Cumberbatch as the Sorcerer Supreme, it's obviously an excellent approximation of what we'll see in theaters come November 2016.

For those who haven't see it as of yet, here's the full press release from Marvel about Cumberbatch playing the role of Dr. Strange. Thanks to The Daily Mail for the heads up.
