Golden State (23-3) remains atop the league after bouncing back from a 105-98 loss on Dec. 16 to Memphis with two straight wins, including Monday night's 128-108 win over Sacramento. Even more impressive, the Warriors have gotten off to their hot start without David Lee on the court. Draymond Green has stepped up in Lee's absence, though, and coach Steve Kerr told reporters he plans to have Lee come off the bench.
"Draymond has earned his spot, and David has to adapt because we're winning and playing well," Kerr said of Green, who's averaging 12.8 points and 8.1 rebounds per game this season, via ESPN. "We'll take each game and see where it goes."
Golden State's hot start is due largely to the performances of backcourt duo Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson, who're averaging 23.5 and 21.7 points per game, respectively.
Fortunately for Golden State, the Lakers will be without one of the league's highest scorers. With concerns about his age and the number of minutes he's playing, Los Angeles decided to sit out Kobe Bryant for Tuesday's game in order to give him rest. The decision came after Bryant averaged just 26.8 percent shooting from the field over the team's three-game losing streak.
"Obviously, I have had tough moments," said Bryant, who finished with nine turnovers in Sunday's 108-101 loss at Sacramento. "But the thing that I have always found effective is to focus on where you're at in the moment and time."
