Samsung Says Goodbye to London Flagship Experience Store

Samsung fans in the U.K. won't be happy to hear that the South Korean tech giant has closed its flagship Samsung Experience store in London.

The announcement was made on Thursday, with photos posted on Twitter showing the store, located at the Westfield Stratford City shopping center, being torn down, according to CNET. The store employs 53 full-time and 5 part-time workers.

"We will do our utmost, were possible, to look to find affected employees alternative employment within the business or offer a financial package should they choose to move on to find new opportunities," Samsung said.

The Westfield Sratford City store was Samsung's biggest in London, with reasons for its closing pointing towards a decline in mobile sales and the company no longer selling laptops in Europe, The Verge reported.

Samsung has been promoting its Experience stores as the place where U.K. citizens could get the first Galaxy S4 and S5 smartphones.

No other stores were announced to be closing at this time, CNET reported. Samsung's other big stores include its Oxford Street shop.

"We remain fully committed to the operation of the remaining nine Samsung Experience Stores across the UK, and wish to reassure our customers that those stores will not be affected by this decision," the company said.

Samsung's closing of its store in London may put a dent in its plan to open a number of stores across the U.K. and Europe. It plans to collaborate with retail chains Carphone Warehouse and Phones 4U, which was revealed earlier this year.
