This year’s “Madden NFL” video game will mark the franchise’s 25 anniversary. So, being the cover athlete for the game would obviously be pretty big. It was no surprise when EA Sports made a huge deal out of having the fans vote and putting the vote on ESPN.
After the whole thing concluded, we ended up with Hall of Fame and legendary Detroit Lions running back Barry Sanders on the cover which is an appropriate choice. (Sanders is often in the best-running-back-of-all-time discussion.)
Therefore, it might have been a little surprising for some fans—who probably thought it was nice for their voice to be heard—when EA Sports revealed the Xbox One/PlayStation 4 version of “Madden NFL 25” and—Adrian Peterson was on the cover.
Now, for those of you who did not keep up with the knock-down-drag-out the “Madden 25” cover vote was, Adrian Peterson and Barry Sanders were in the finals.
Sanders won with 58 percent of the votes which were in excess of 700,000, according to MLive.com.
It seems EA Sports, decided to go away from Sanders at E3—totally away. In addition to Peterson’s face on the next-gen versions of the video game, Sanders appears nowhere in the “Madden NFL 25” E3 Gameplay Trailer.
Instead, we see Peterson, Washington Redskin quarterback Robert Griffin III and Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch and quarterback Russell Wilson.
The good news, for any disappointed Barry Sanders fans, is the trailer seems to show the EA Sports Ignite engine. Peterson, Lynch, Wilson and RGIII seems to be aware of their surroundings and move in real time.
In conclusion, Barry Sanders will appear on the Xbox 360/PlayStation 3 version of the game and Adrian Peterson will appear on the newer version.
“Madden NFL 25” will release August 27.
