Crowdfunding Campaign Started for BiCi Smart Bike, Designed for Improved Cycling

A company in Shanghai by the name of AOAO Studio has started a crowdfunding campaign for a smart bicycle created to be "the perfect bike."

The vehicle, called BiCi (short for Basic Conceptio), is designed to provide a high-tech riding experience with sensors that can track the rider's speed, cadence, altitude, location, calories consumed and heart rate, according to Gizmag. Riders will be able to see this data on their paired iOS or Android smartphone that sits on the handlebar mount.

The frame is made of carbon fiber, and the two wheels measure 22 inches each. Owners will be able to charge the bike's battery just by riding thanks to a front-hub dynamo.

The BiCi app will let riders map out their routes to wherever they're going, and the handlebars will buzz along the ride to tell the user when to turn left or right, Gizmag reported. Running lights are including at the end of both bars and blink whenever the rider needs to make a turn.

People worried about their bike being stolen can rest easy, as BiCi's sensors can detect when it's being moved when it is left alone and its owner isn't around. The bike will then send an alert to the owner and help him or her track its location with its GPS module.

There are currently 140 BiCis available for preorder on crowdfunding site Pozible in two models, the $49 Basic Version model and the $81 Expert Version model, Gizmag reported. The funding will go toward production, and the Basic and Expert Version will be available for $643 and $965 respectively if the funding goal is met.
