The Denver Nuggets reportedly are interested in trading for Charlotte Hornets guard Lance Stephenson. RealGM cited Nugget coach Brian Shaw's close relationship with Stephenson, whom Charlotte purportedly took off the market, as the driving force behind Denver's interest.
Denver had interest in Stephenson at some point this season, and it's possible they still do as the Feb. 19 trade deadline approaches.
Per RealGM:
"Behind Brian Shaw's bond with Stephenson, the Denver Nuggets emerged as an interested suitor for him this season, league sources told RealGM."
Stephenson, though, may no longer be available. After being shopped earlier in December, the Hornets reportedly have taken him off the trade block and are giving him a second chance - either to see if he can fit in with the team or to hope his production improves so his trade value increases.
Per ESPN:
"Underwhelmed by the quality of trade offers they've received for Lance Stephenson, the Charlotte Hornets have decided to keep the volatile guard 'for now,' according to league sources. ... Charlotte feels the (groin) injury has affected Stephenson's movement and conditioning, according to sources, and that just as he was getting healthy, he reinjured the groin Wednesday against Phoenix.
"The Hornets want to rest Stephenson, let him heal and see if he can either fit in with Charlotte or re-establish his trade value."
RealGM also reported Stephenson had "gotten a level of assurance from the Hornets about a continued partnership, and he's reaffirmed teammates of his commitment, sources said."
