Superman Movie ‘Man of Steel” Tops U.S. Box Office

Superman movie "Man of Steel" is topping the U.S. box office after making a whopping $113 million in its opening weekend.

The latest Superman movie "Man of Steel" set a new "biggest June opening" record and bagged its way straight to the top of the U.S. box office after making a whopping $113 million in its opening weekend. According to a Reuters report, this is the second biggest opening this year. Prior to this, "Toy Story 3" held the record for the biggest June opening making $110.3 million when it opened in 2010.

British actor Henry Cavill plays the role of the superhero alongside Amy Adams as the news reporter, Lois Lane. This is the first Superman movie to be released in the last seven years. The film is directed by Zack Snyder and Christopher Nolan is its co-writer as well as one of the producers.

"They finally got the Superman formula right," said box office analyst for Hollywood.com, Paul Dergarabedian. "Superhero movies really are the bread and butter of the summer box office."

The Reuters report also stated that the movie catered to a 56 percent male and 44 percent female audiences.

"Today is a big day for us," said Warner Bros' president of theatrical distribution Dan Fellman, noting the film's record opening. He added that "Man of Steel" was now well-poised to reap big box office "in the heart of the summer play time."

"This is the End" starring Seth Rogen, James Franco and Jonah Hill came in second after making $20.5 million in its opening weekend.
