At long last, Sony has issued a statement on the PlayStation blog today explaining the PlayStation Network problems occurring over the past 48 hours as the service experiences new issues with PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 connectivity.
"The video game industry has been experiencing high levels of traffic designed to disrupt connectivity and online gameplay," said Catherine Jensen, vice president of SCEA Consumer Experience . "Multiple networks, including PSN, have been affected over the last 48 hours. PSN engineers are working hard to restore full network access and online gameplay as quickly as possible."
"From time to time there may be disruptions in service due to surges in traffic, but our engineers will be working to restore service as quickly as possible," Jensen concluded.
The update and new outage problems come shortly after an update stating PSN services were gradually being restored. Sony's PlayStation Network has been experiencing ongoing connectivity and functionality issues since December 24. Users have been unable to sign into the services and access online games and features since the difficulties began.
Stay tuned for more on this as it develops. Hopefully, these "glitches" will be resolved before people's holiday vacations are over and they have to return to work.
