The internet exploded with rumors on Sunday that Hugh Hefner was found dead by police at the Playboy mansion. According to Inquistr, the story originated on the fake site NBCToday.co and stated that police responded to a call at the mansion and found the 88-year-old mogul dead.
The report went on to say that he died from natural causes. Well, it turns out the story is a hoax and Hefner is alive and well. In fact, he attended a movie night with his wife Crystal Hefner and some friends at the mansion Sunday evening.
"Movie night with the family," Crystal captioned a photo of the Playboy mogul with three other ladies.
Despite the picture clearly letting the world know that Hefner was alive, Crystal still received a ton of tweets mourning the loss of the businessman. Eventually she addressed the hoax on Twitter, writing, "A lie can run around the world before the truth has got it's [sic] boots on. #QuoteOfTheDay."
She also shared a photo of batman slapping Robin with the words "Please share and warn all your fr... IT'S A HOAX" written across the top.
In related news, Hefner responded to Bill Cosby's sexual assault allegations, telling The Hollywood Reporter that it was "saddening." Last week, a woman named Judy Huth came forward with claims that Cosby molested her at the Playboy mansion when she was 15 years old.
"Bill Cosby has been a good friend for many years and the mere thought of these allegations is truly saddening," he told The Hollywood Reporter. "I would never tolerate this kind of behavior, regardless of who was involved."
According to the Huffington Post, former Playboy bunny P.J. Masten also alleged that she was drugged and raped in a Chicago hotel in 1972.
"[There are] 12 former bunnies that I know of that are ashamed to come forward, frightened to come forward, married with families [and] don't want to come forward. But they were also drugged and raped by Bill Cosby," she said.
