San Antonio Spurs guard Danny Green set an NBA Finals record for most three-pointers made during his team's win on Sunday over the Miami Heat. He also came close to making even bigger news after almost trampling Tim Duncan's kid en route to the locker room.
Green sank his 25th three-pointer of the Finals series late in the fourth quarter of Game 5, closing the door on a potential Heat comeback. The Spurs went on to win the game 114-104, going up 3-2 in the series. In actuality, Green broke the NBA Finals record of most three-pointers in a series with his 23rd earlier in the game - Heat guard Ray Allen, who previously held the record, looked on in disbelief.
Green has been hot from downtown the entire series. He's shot an incredible 65.8 percent from three-point range during the first five NBA Finals games, Yahoo! Sports reports. The 25-year-old guard didn't let the new record go to his head.
"I've been getting lucky," Green told reporters after the game. "I was moving around a lot. Our transition helps us, our pace. Tony penetrating and Manu penetrating, making the defense collapse is the reason why I've been getting open. Luckily, a couple have dropped for me."
Teammate Tony Parker was in disbelief at how many open looks the Heat gave Green.
"I can't believe he's still open at this moment of this series," Parker told reporters after the game. "They are still trapping me and doubling Timmy, and Danny is wide open. He's shooting the ball well - if you are going to leave Danny wide open, he's going to make threes."
Green's historic night was almost overshadowed by a potential halftime incident. Green was on his way to the locker room when a kid suddenly came running around the corner. He did a little spin move to avoid trampling the kid, who was later revealed to be Tim Duncan's son.
San Antonio visits Miami on Tuesday for Game 6.
