'The Interview' Grosses $15 million online with 2 million downloads and streams

“The Interview” grossed $15 million with 2 million downloads and streams in the first four days of its release.

USA Today reported that “The Interview” ranks number one in online performance ever for a Sony film.

Sony released the film in 330 independent theaters on Christmas Day, but made it available online on Christmas Eve at 10 a.m. PT.

Consumers can view the film for $5.99 on Google Play, YouTube Movies, Microsoft’s Xbox Video and Sony's own SeeTheInterview.com.

“The Interview” made $2.8 million in theaters in the first four days of its release, Sony announced Sunday.

According to The Wall Street Journal, the film can also be downloaded on Apple’s iTunes Store as of Sunday.

Sony originally refused to release the film in theaters because hackers stole a massive amount of documents and emails from the company. The hackers then threatened violence against anyone who saw the film in theaters.

“The Interview” stars James Franco and Seth Rogen. Rogen said Sunday in a statement that he viewed the release of the film as a victory, USA Today reported.

“I’m so grateful that the movie found its way into theaters, and I’m thrilled that people actually went out and saw it,” Rogen said. “The fact that people actually left their houses when they had the option of staying home is amazing.”
