2-Year-Old Peyton Williams With Rare Blood Disorder Has Special Blood Drive Held For Her

A 2-year-old with an extremely rare blood disorder is behind a recent blood drive in a Detroit community.

Peyton Williams, who turned 2-years-old on Saturday, has Diamond-Blackfan anemia (DBA), which prevents her bone marrow from creating red blood cells, reported My Fox Detroit. She is one of only about 800 people in the world who have the incurable disease.

"She's fabulous; she's full of energy ... everyone always says, 'Oh my God, I never would've known that there was anything wrong with her," Peyton's mother, Danielle Williams, told My Fox Detroit.

Peyton has already received 15 blood transfusions in her short life, which is what inspired her family to pay it forward and organize blood drives in their community.

The family, along with the assistance of the American Red Cross, held a blood drive on Saturday in Peyton's honor.

"Without blood donations we wouldn't have had the outcome we have," Williams said to My Fox Detroit.
