Kirk Cousins is sick of being a back up in the NFL.
He's ready to take the reins of an offense and lead them to glorious, hard-fought victory, week in and week out.
Whether or not Cousins is actually capable of such a feat is entirely debatable, but what isn't debatable is his clear desire to be "the guy" for an NFL organization.
Cousins, speaking to Dianna Marie Russini of NBC4 D.C. Monday, said that if the team is planning on bringing Robert Griffin III back to be the starter for next season, then he'd very much like to be traded.
Cousins apparently feels that if RG3 is going to return as the unquestioned No. 1 and there is no true quarterback competition in our nation's capital, then he doesn't need to be there.
"Cousins explained if there is no QB competition, there's no point. Although he would approach it as 16 games until free agency," Russini tweeted.
He also said that it is "obvious" he couldn't possibly stay in Washington as a back up.
Next season, Cousins will enter the final year of his four-year, $2.5 million rookie contract.
Cousins appeared in six games for the Redskins this season after Griffin injured his ankle in Week 2. He started out red-hot, completing 22 balls on 33 attempts for 250 yards and two touchdowns in a win against Jacksonville, then throwing 30 completions for 427 yards, three touchdowns and one interception in a loss against the Philadelphia Eagles the next week.
Unfortunately, the season unraveled from there. Cousins finished the year with just over 1,700 yards passing, 10 touchdowns and nine interceptions as the team fell apart and Coach Jay Gruden chose to go with Colt McCoy and then a healthy Griffin over Cousins.
As such, there may not be much of a market for Cousins services, though, as Ian Rapoport of NFL.com notes, the Browns and offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan have a connection with Cousins and had shown interest previously.
